lyrics

The Tractor
Godfrey Yeomans & Kevin Adams

These new-fangled tractors might be here to stay
But give me an old-fangled horse any day
I know where I am with him and he knows me,
Happy with tractors I never will be

Now everything’s pulled by the tractor,
There’s no work for horses to do
They’ll all end up down at the knackers I fear,
They’ll probably send me there too!
The day came and I had to face it
I’d show ‘em I wouldn’t be beat
I started the tractor and climbed up on board,
Sat up like Lord Muck in the seat

Sedately I drove down the meadow,
Got down there without any hitch
But when I yelled ‘Whoa!’ like I would to the horse,
The tractor went straight in the ditch!
Now pride, and some parts of my body,
They suffered a bit of a blow
I picked myself up and I hobbled about,
And back to the farmyard did go.

“I ‘spose you all think that were funny”,
Says I to ‘em, when I got back.
Was hoping the tractor was beyond repair,
But frit it would get me the sack.
So down there we went with two horses,
Both yoked up and with a long chain
They pulled out the tractor in no time at all,
And eyed it with horsey disdain.
