Up first thing, out on the farm
Check no beast has come to harm
Feed them, count them, when I’m done
Time to nip back home
Half hour break, my turn to eat
Back to work the boss to meet
Today he’ll look and let me know
Which beast we will show
I’ll bring the best, for him to view
Hereford, Shorthorn, Belgian Blue
He’ll look for form, a beast well made
A winner through and through
It’s to the Christmas fatstock show
I’ll prepare him for to go
If we can win a decent place
He’ll fetch a better price
On the day I’ll wash him down
Give his coat a clip and comb
Try to make him look his best
To stand out from the rest
It’s the butcher’s eye we hope to take
So in the auction they will make
Some good bids for our best beef steer
And bring us Christmas cheer
And then I’ll have some beer!
